Enduring a breakup is universally acknowledged as a gut-wrenching experience. Drawing from the insights of “How Emotions are Made” by Lisa F. Barret, it’s evident that our physiological states change when we are with loved ones; our breathing and heartbeat are intricately aligned. We also perceive life’s hurdles less daunting when we tackle them together with loved ones, so it’s natural to reel from the loss of a significant other, feeling as if we’ve been stripped of a part of our very essence.

This month marks a year since the curtains fell on my relationship with my ex-partner — a journey I initially chronicled here on Medium. The very act of counting the month's post-breakup signals that I’m yet to fully navigate through the aftermath. It’s not my first rodeo with heartache, but this time, the pain feels uniquely profound. In the past, I’d jump straight into the dating scene, barely giving myself a moment to reflect or breathe.
