Enduring a breakup is universally acknowledged as a gut-wrenching experience. Drawing from the insights of “How Emotions are Made” by Lisa F. Barret, it’s evident that our physiological states change when we are with loved ones; our breathing and heartbeat are intricately aligned. We also perceive life’s hurdles less daunting when we tackle them together with loved ones, so it’s natural to reel from the loss of a significant other, feeling as if we’ve been stripped of a part of our very essence.
